Lorry and car transporter collide on M5 Northbound between Junctions 23 and 22

Update


Traffic is reported to be heavier than normal on the A38 Northbound between Watery Lane (North Petherton) and A39 Broadway / Taunton Road (Bridgwater).

There are delays as traffic avoids the congestion on the M5 Northbound.

Lane two has re-opened and lane one remains closed for emergency repair work. The lane is expected to remain closed throughout the day and into the night.

Report of queueing traffic and long delays.


Two lanes are currently closed and there is queuing traffic following a collision involving a lorry and car transporter on the M5 Northbound between Junctions 23 and 22 this morning (Thursday).

Two fire appliances from Bridgwater, one from Burnham on Sea and the rescue tender from Taunton attended the collision.

The driver of one of the vehicles was trapped in the cab and crews got to work with hydraulic cutting equipment to extricate the casualty. Vehicle stabilisation equipment was also used.

The casualty was released by crews and taken into the care of paramedics on scene.

Duty of care of the scene was being left with the Police and Highways Agency.

Lanes one and two (of three) are closed and there is queueing traffic following the incident.

There is congestion on the M5 to Junction 24.
