Taunton has powered ahead of Weston-super-Mare in a Somerset Monopoly race to ‘Pass Go’.
The public has been voting for one of five Somerset cities and towns to get its very own official Monopoly game for this year, with polls closing next weekend.
Until now it had been ‘neck and neck’ between Taunton and Weston-super-Mare.
Polls close soon – so if Taunton does win what would a board look like based on Somerset’s county town?
The council offices could well land on the Whitehall square from the board’s original Monopoly.
The Museum of Somerset could appear on the trendy Angel, Islington space from the London original.
A newspaper could be on Fleet Street, spiritual home of the newspaper industry.
Being very old Taunton Castle could land on Old Kent Road and the racecourse could appear on a Chance square.
The very green and lush County Ground – home of Somerset County Cricket Ground – could appear on a green square.
Natasha Rebuck, custom games executive from Winning Moves UK, who will be producing the board based on the winning place under license from Monopoly owners Hasbro, say that Taunton is well ahead “by a country mile – a Somerset one at that.”
“Taunton has amassed an enormous amount of votes”.
Glastonbury, Taunton, Wells, Weston-super-Mare and Yeovil were shortlisted by Winning Moves UK in January.
The winning location is guaranteed to ‘Pass Go’ to land its very own Monopoly game, to appear on shop shelves later this year.
You can votes by emailing email@example.com or by post to The MONOPOLY Somerset Desk, Winning Moves UK, 7 Praed Street, London W2 1NP.
Poll lines close at 23.59 on 25 March 2017.
An announcement of the winning location will be made on 6 April.
