One Taunton charity is being given the opportunity to feature on a Community Chest Space on the brand new official Monopoly game for the town, which was announced a fortnight ago.
The makers behind the game, Winning Moves UK, under official license from Hasbro, say that due to the “overwhelming positive response” of the public to the new edition that they are now allocating a leading space in the game specifically to a town charity.
So far more than 1,200 people have voted for suggestions for the new game.
“One Taunton charity will get to appear on its very own space in the game” said Natasha Rebuck, from London-based Winning Moves UK.
The public has been voting since two weeks ago for general landmarks to appear on the multi-coloured spaces made famous in the original London game.
Every location from Mayfair to Park Lane is up for grabs, along with most of the Chance and Community Chest Cards which will be heavily Taunton themed. Now a charity will get to land on the board too.
The charity must be currently registered with the Charity Commission of England and Wales and be Taunton related.
“We have so far received the most wonderful suggestions and nominations,” added Ms Rebuck.
“Thank you to everyone in the town – and beyond – who have taken the time to send in these great suggestions and taken the idea if the game to their hearts.”
Amazon, The Works, WHS, Waterstones and Argos have each confirmed they will be stocking the new game.
Ms Rebuck, a custom games executive at Winning Moves UK, producing the board under license from Hasbro, added:
“As an extra thank you we’ve now decided to offer a Taunton charity its very own prime location.”
The board will see around 30 leading Taunton landmarks replacing the famous Monopoly locations like Mayfair and Park Lane from the London classic original.
Very many of the Chance and Community Chest cards will be Taunton themed too.
The game will be ready to be released in time for this Christmas (2017) and will hit shop shelves this October.
