New players sign up for Bridgwater Town FC under 18s

The football Development Centre set up by Bridgwater Town Football Club (BTFC) and Bridgwater College has seen two of its under 16 players sign up to be part of next season’s under 18 squad.

Current members Kieran Giles, 16, who attends Robert Blake Science College and plays in midfield for Tone Youth Wasps, and Alex Carthew, 16, who attends Queen’s College in Taunton and plays in goal for Bridgwater Wolves, have both signed registration forms for the 2104/15 season.

Tom Sage, the Centre’s under 18s Manager said, “The Development Centre has a lot of good players coming through, and it will be very exciting to see these players progress over next couple of years. I also hope their progression will lead to healthy competition for places among the rest of the squad. These two players are just a few who have really shown a lot of promise and I have invited them to train with my under 18 squad during pre-season trials but they still have a lot of hard work ahead of them to prove they can make the next step up.”

Jamie Laird, BTFC and Bridgwater College Head Coach said, “This underlines exactly why we have set this Development Centre up – so that players can successfully make the transition from under 16s to the under 18s. I am confident that these won’t be the only two coming through, as there are many good local players at the same level.”

The Development Centre is holding free trials for current years 8 and 9 – players who are going into the under 14s and 15s for the 2014-15 season on Monday 21 July 2014 from 7pm to 8.30pm. Places are limited, so please book and confirm your attendance by emailing with your name, contact details, date of birth and school.

BTFC under 18s will also be holding open training sessions for next season’s squad at the College 6.30pm – 8.00pm on the following dates; Wednesday 23 July, Wednesday 30 July and Wednesday 6 August.
