The Fire Service received a call from Police reporting a rubbish fire by a vehicle on Silver Street, Taunton at 00:27 this morning (Thursday 1 January). One fire appliance from Taunton attended.
Upon arrival, fire crews requested a second fire appliance from Taunton as adjacent vehicles and property was now involved in fire. Police closed Silver Street to allow fire crews full access.
Fire crews confirmed a vehicle fire next to a domestic property which had now spread to a second vehicle. The vehicles were extinguished using four breathing apparatus wearers and two hose reel jets.
Fire crews requested the attendance of Transco to inspect to gas boxes that had been damaged by fire on an adjacent domestic property.
Fire crews confirmed this was a fire involving a rubbish bin which had spread to two vehicles. Fifty percent of the first vehicle was damaged by fire and twenty percent of the second vehicle was damaged by heat. There was also minor fire damage to gas supply boxes on the external of an adjacent domestic proeprty. The fire was extinguished by fire crews using four breathing apparatus wearers and two hose reel jets. The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental.
