Thursday 5 February 2015 celebrates National Voter Registration Day, when a week of activities will be launched across the nation by the Electoral Commission to encourage as many people as possible to register to vote.
As the countdown to the General and Local Elections on Thursday 7 May 2015 begins, residents of Taunton Deane are being encouraged to make sure they are on the Electoral Register.
On Thursday 7 May, elections will be taking place in Taunton Deane for the Member of Parliament for the Taunton constituency. On the same day, elections will be held for the 56 seats on Taunton Deane Borough Council and for the 42 Town and Parish Councils within the borough.
To coincide with National Voter Registration Day, Taunton Deane Borough Council has sent a Household Notification to each household in the district which lists the names of people registered. The notification will also advise how any non-registered residents can register.
In 2014 Individual Electoral Registration (IER) was introduced. It’s a big, important change that will let everyone take responsibility for their own vote. In addition, for the first time ever, people are now able to register online.
If you are entitled to be on the Electoral Register but are not currently, you can register by going to www.gov.uk/register-to-vote.
The registration deadline for the general election and local government election is Monday 20 April 2015.
