Don’t mess with our parks and playgrounds! – School children encourage owners to clear up after dogs

Children at schools in the Wellington urban area are being enlisted in the battle to encourage responsible dog ownership locally.

The youngsters, through their schools, are being asked to come up with images and slogans for posters to make people stop and think about the mess dogs leave behind.

It is an offence to allow pets to foul public areas – and children are often the victims when they play in parks and playgrounds, walk along the street or go for a cycle ride.

Taunton Deane Borough Council’s community development team in Wellington is now organising a poster competition, with support from Wellington Action Group (WAG) so children can take their message straight to the public.

The deadline for entries is July 8 – the competition will be judged during the school holidays and the winners, announced in September, will receive a prize.

Entries will be collected by school staff or can be sent directly to Martha Dudman, Community Development, The Deane House, Belvedere Road, Taunton TA1 1HE.

They can also be dropped in to the Wellington Community Office in Fore Street.
