Vehicle ‘well alight’ on hard shoulder of M5 Southbound between Junctions 26 and 27

Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service received numerous calls to reports of a vehicle on fire on the hard shoulder of the M5 Southbound between junctions 26 and 27 at 14:59 this afternoon.

1 fire appliance from Wellington and 1 from Taunton were mobilised to the incident.

On arrival, crews found the vehicle to be well alight. Crews used 4 breathing apparatus wearers, 2 hose reel jets and 1 compressed air foam jet (CAFS) to extinguish the fire.

The vehicle and part of the embankment was severely damaged by fire, the cause was accidental.
