Mayor of Taunton Deane honoured to raise flag on behalf of Armed Forces on Monday

Armed Forces Day celebrations begin on Monday 22 June when the Armed Forces Day flag is raised on buildings and famous landmarks across the country.

Mayor of Taunton Deane, Cllr Marcia Hill, will raise a flag at 11am on Monday at the The Deane House in Taunton in support of Armed Forces Day – the flag  will be kept flying all week.

Also present will be the Borough Council’s Armed Forces Champion, Cllr Bob Bowrah, and representatives from 40 Commando Royal Marines, based in Norton Fitzwarren, veterans’ organisations and The Rifles.

It is an opportunity for the nation to show support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community; from currently serving troops to Service families, veterans and cadets.

Cllr Hill said:

“It’s an honour to raise the flag on behalf of our Armed Forces. Doing so marks this Council’s appreciation of the men and women who stand ready to defend our country and communities. We have strong links locally with the Armed Forces.”
