Somerset bowled their way back into their LV=County Championship game at Edgbaston as Warwickshire finished the day with a lead of 54 runs with two first innings wickets in hand.
At 243 for three in reply to Somerset’s 265, the hosts looked to be heading for a sizeable first innings lead before Somerset claimed five wickets for 39 as Warwickshire ended on 319 for eight.
Craig Overton and Alfonso Thomas were the main wicket takers, but the whole bowling unit performed well.
Afterwards Assistant Coach Jason Kerr said:
“We have attacked brilliantly all day and it’s very attritional cricket. Hain and Trott batted well and endeavored to get away from us, but when the second new ball came around we got our rewards for how we had bowled all day.
Regarding Craig Overton’s four wickets Jason said:
“He has been outstanding all season and today was no different. He went out and did what he does best. He hit fantastic areas on a pitch that hasn’t got a lot of pace in it and with the new ball he got some lateral movement as well and got his rewards.
“The whole of the bowling unit has performed well for us today- Alfonso, Tim Groenewald and Jim Allenby, while Manny has bowled superbly to give us control at one end.”
