Due to severe weather forecasted tomorrow, Taunton’s Christmas Festival has been postponed until Sunday 6 December.
Yellow weather warnings of wind across Somerset issued yesterday have been extended until 20:00 tomorrow evening.
Inland gusts of 50 to 60 mph could occur and gusts around western coasts could locally reach around 70 mph.
Those affected across Somerset and the South West have been warned to be aware of the potential for disruption due to the gales and severe gales.
Both yellow weather warnings of wind are valid from 10:30 – 20:00 today and 07:00 – 20:00 tomorrow.
Some lights have been switched on tonight but Taunton’s Christmas tree lights and those around the Market House will be switched on next Sunday.
Shops will still be open according to Taunton Deane Borough Council and the Magical Christmas Grotto, organised by the Think Amy road safety charity will go ahead as planned though Santa will now be pulled by reindeers Comet and Cupid up the High Street to The Castle Hotel at 11:00.
