The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for ice across South West England tonight until tomorrow morning.
With surface temperatures close to freezing and expected to fall further in the next few hours, there is a risk of icy patches forming on untreated roads and pavements.
The Met Office’s Chief Forecaster said:
“With prolonged clear skies in this cold airstream surface temperatures are expected to fall below freezing. Showers are expected to continue into the early hours of New Years Day and may result in temporary treatment wash off. Please be aware of the potential for icy patches to form on untreated surfaces.”
The areas affected are likely to be:
Cornwall, Devon, Somerset, Bath and North East Somerset, Bristol, North Somerset, South Gloucestershire, Wiltshire, Gloucestershire.
The warning is valid from 22:00 Thursday 31 December – 07:00 Friday 1 January.
