Over the last year Taunton Deane Mayor, Councillor Marcia Hill and her Consort, Julian Hill have thrown themselves into public service, zooming around from one civic engagement to another, from Meeting to Party and have loved every moment of it, giving tirelessly of their time and commitment to Taunton Deane.
However today is the last day that this will be happening with Marcia as the Mayor, as today – 12th May 2016, is the last day in her role of Mayor and her final engagement is a lunch with Cadets In The Community, at which she will be speaking.
Phil Hodgson caught up with Marcia to ask her to reflect on her year as The Worshipful Mayor of Taunton Deane. “It’s been the most amazing time, I’ve thoroughly loved serving the community as Mayor and if I could do it all again, I would. It’s tiring as you’re always on the go, but so very rewarding as you get to visit so many people and to see so many fantastic projects and groups in the Borough. I feel so privileged to have been in such an amazing position”.
“There’s been days where it has has been non-stop from first thing in the morning till last thing at night and days like that have left me and Julian, my Husband, shattered but it’s been such a fantastic year. I’d like to say thank you to everyone that has come out to meet me and to the organisations and businesses that have invited me to join them at their events. I’d also like to thank the entire team at Taunton Deane Borough Council and special mention to the Mayors Parlour Team and our official Driver who have worked so hard to ensure we get to where we need to be on time. Finally, I’d like to say a very special thank you to my Husband, Julian, who has been my Consort for the last year, for being by my side and being so supportive”
Marcia will continue to be a Councillor for Taunton Deane and we are delighted to announce that, after official invite from the Directors, Marcia will be joining Apple FM as a Director and a member of the Community Matters Interviewing team, which is being formed. “I know how important the station is to so many people on both sides of the radio and I will be proud to be working with such a brilliant Award winning team. I can’t wait to start.”
Marcia has served as a Taunton Deane District Councillor for the Pyrland and Rowbarton Ward for 22 years. She is a Trustee for Hestercombe House and Gardens and the Somerset Buildings Preservation Trust. She was also a founder member of the Tenants Forum and was a Taunton Deane Borough Council representative on the Taunton Town Charity. Her interests and hobbies range from the Sealed Knot (17th century re-enactment), Goodwife of the Bridgwater Garrison; historical interpretation and curriculum support of the Monmouth Rebellion and English Civil War with hands on learning in schools and living history displays. She also enjoys a varied range of handicrafts and her garden.
Apple FM is very much looking forward to having Marcia as part of our team.
