Three fire appliances from Taunton and Bridgwater were mobilised to a report of smoke coming from a roof in School road in Monkton Heathfield at 10:16 this morning (Wednesday).
Upon arrival the incident commander increased the attendance to four fire engines due to the roof and solar panels being involved and then very shortly after another further two fire appliances were requested, making six, due to fire spreading to adjacent property.
Crews confirmed a fully developed roof fire which had also spread causing two semi detached properties to be involved.
They set to work extinguishing using breathing apparatus, a hose reel jet and safety jet.
Crews also isolated the power on the ground floor.
The incident commander requested the attendance of the aerial ladder platform which was then mobilised from Taunton.
Police were also requested for traffic duties.
An ambulance had been requested for a female with pre existing breathing medical conditions.
Crews made good progress to stop the fire spreading any further to the adjoining property.
Gas and electric companies were requested to isolate the affected properties.
