A fire appliance from Taunton was mobilised to a report of a fire in a field in Trull at 12:35 this afternoon (Friday).
Upon arrival the incident commander requested two further appliances and a water carrier due to an 18 acre field of stubble containing several hay stacks well alight.
Crews set to work extinguishing the fire using one hose reel jet and beaters.
At 13:46, crews confirmed the fire as being surrounded and under control and continued to extinguish the fire using three hose reel jets and beaters.
At 14:30, crews confirmed the fire extinguished. Approximately 70 per cent of an 18 acre field of stubble was destroyed together with approximately two tonnes of baled straw. This was extinguished using four hose reel jets, beaters and drag forks. This was supplemented by water from the water carrier and a hydrant.
The cause of the fire was accidental.
