Woman, boy and dog cut free after car overturns and crashes through hedge on Blagdon Hill

Two fire appliances from Taunton were mobilised to a one vehicle road traffic collision where a car had overturned, left the road and gone through a hedge, trapping its occupants on Blagdon Hill at 11:38 this morning (Friday).

Shortly after arriving and assessing the scene crews confirmed that two people were medically and physically trapped, an adult female and eight-year-old boy along with their dog, and requested the attendance of the rescue tender which also came from Taunton, for further cutting equipment, as well as a local vet.

Crews set to work stabilising the vehicle, before removing one of the doors with hydraulic cutting equipment, in order to extricate the casualties first, followed by the dog, who was trapped by its legs.

The vet was stood down at this time, as a Police dog handler arrived on scene and so took duty of care for the dog, whilst the casualties were conveyed to hospital by land ambulance.

Once the vehicle and scene were made safe, duty of care for the incident was left with Police
