Two fire appliances from Wellington attended a call to an elderly male trapped in his van in rising flood water on Nynehead Road, Wellington at 18:50 this evening (Monday).
Crews arrived on scene and began donning drysuits in order to wade to the vehicle.
Crews made contact with the man in the vehicle and requested an Ambulance and the special rescue team from Bridgwater to attend.
The man was struggling to breathe and then became unconscious.
Crews administered oxygen therapy to the casualty.
The special rescue team donned drysuits and carried a stretcher across the water to load the casualty onto.
Crews had to work quickly as the flood water was rising.
The casualty was rescued from the vehicle, and taken to hospital in a waiting Ambulance.
A 4×4 vehicle from Wellington also attended the incident to assist with ferrying personnel.
