Weather warning of ‘torrential rain and thunderstorms’ for Somerset

A yellow weather warning of rain has been issued across South West England including Somerset on Sunday and Monday.

The Met Office’s Chief Forecaster said:

“Torrential rain and thunderstorms could give as much as 30mm, possibly 40mm in an hour in places. It is not certain where flooding impacts may occur, but it is likely to be in a few places rather than across the whole warning area. Lightning strikes are also possible, which bring a chance of power cuts.”

The warning, affecting Bath and North East Somerset, Bournemouth, Bristol, Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Gloucestershire, North Somerset, Plymouth, Poole, Somerset, South Gloucestershire, Swindon, Torbay and Wiltshire, is valid from 12:00 on Sunday 28 May to 12:00 on Monday 29 May.
