Musgrove Park Hospital evacuated following gas leak

Updates from Musgrove Park Hospital and Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service


Musgrove Park Hospital has said that it is ‘business as usual’ and ‘please use Parkfield Drive entrance’ following a gas incident off site this morning (Saturday).

Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service said:

“Approximately 14 people have been evacuated from a small area in the hospital to another ward within the hospital itself.”


Police are currently assisting the fire service in a precautionary evacuation at Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton following a gas leak incident off site.

Three fire engines from Taunton and Wellington are in attendance and the fire service has said the gas leak was caused by an accidental rupture to the gas main near Parkfield Drive in Taunton.

Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service said:

“Crews are currently at work with gas company representatives making the area safe and carrying out evacuations of a part of the hospital area.

Roads have been closed due to cordons that are in place for the safety of the public.

There have been no casualties affected by the leak.”

Avon and Somerset Police said:

“We are currently assisting the fire service in evacuating Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton after contractors damaged a gas pipe.

The evacuation is precautionary and road closures are in place while the incident is dealt with.”
