Neighbourhood officers in Taunton have successfully secured a closure order following reports of suspected drug dealing at a residential property in Hamilton Road.
The Halcon One Team, in partnership with Taunton Deane Borough Council, has been working with local residents to obtain the order at Taunton Crown Court, which has led to the immediate closure of the house.
It follows a search warrant at the address in September resulting in the seizure of about 40 wraps of what is suspected to be heroin.
The house had also previously been linked with organised crime groups from larger cities.
PC Jon O’Connor, who led the application, said:
“This address has been at the forefront of drug-related activity for a number of months and I am so pleased that local residents will not have to suffer in fear any longer.
We will not tolerate drug dealing in our communities and this closure is a clear example of the strengths of ‘One Team’ partnership working within our neighbourhoods.
The police and Taunton Deane Borough Council will continue to work together to protect and support our most vulnerable residents.”
Cllr Terry Beale, Taunton Deane Borough Council lead member for housing, said:
“I would like to acknowledge the good work of Jon O’Connor, the Beat Manager for Halcon in pursuing the closure order, and the Halcon One Team in managing this case.
This is another great example of One Team working in dealing with a complex case and the concerns of a fearful community.
This outcome has certainly sent a message to those individuals associating their address with drug-related activities. It has also provided the residents of Hamilton Road with some much needed peace, tranquillity and safety.”
