Avon and Somerset Police say they believe they have identified a man in images released last night as part of an inquiry into a serious sexual assault in Taunton.

Police say their enquiries into the incident are continuing.

Avon and Somerset Police have released two images of a man they need help identifying.

Police want to speak to the man in connection with a serious sexual assault in Taunton during the early hours of New Year’s Day.

A woman in her 20s was attacked in Goodland Gardens, behind Debenhams, at approximately 01:15.

Investigating officer detective sergeant Matt Shaw said:

“The victim is understandably very upset by what has happened and has been extremely brave in reporting the incident to us.

She is being provided with all the support she needs.

As part of our inquiry I’d really like to trace the man in the images we’re releasing.

I appreciate the pictures aren’t the best but if you think you have information about his identity, or about the incident, please call us as soon as possible.”
