A new nursery which will encourage children and their families to embrace a green sustainable lifestyle is being opened in Taunton. Nerrols Nursery is being built in the countryside on the edge of Taunton, near Cheddon Fitzpaine, as part of the Nerrols Primary School development due to open in September 2019.
Its location beside the new Northwalls housing scheme means parents will be encouraged to walk or cycle with their little ones to school, with bike spaces provided. It is also next to the newly planted Somerset Wood, which will provide opportunities for forest school activities.
The recently appointed Head Teacher, Rhian Locker, said: “I think our location is pretty amazing, we are next to a town with a vibrant cultural life, including a great museum and theatre, but also right by some beautiful woodland which will be at our disposal for all sorts of interesting countryside based activities.”
Nerrols Nursery will offer care and education for children aged between two and four, with large purpose built rooms and free flow access to a designated outdoor area. Children will also be able to use the wider facilities of the Nerrols campus which include an all-weather pitch, vegetable garden, pond and a range of outdoor play equipment.
Mrs Locker added: “We are aiming to offer children the best care and education possible. We want our children to feel happy and secure, to enjoy spending time at nursery, make friends and enjoy exciting, engaging activities which inspire and give them the confidence to achieve their potential.”
The nursery is part of the Richard Huish Trust, which sponsors a number of schools in the Taunton area and is linked to Richard Huish College – rated outstanding by Ofsted. It will be open Monday to Friday from 8.00am to 6.00pm for 49 weeks of the year (excluding bank holidays, Christmas closures and staff training days).
