Taunton and Somerset NHS Foundation Trust (TSFT) and Somerset Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (Sompar) look forward to welcoming Dr Daniel Meron as Chief Medical Officer across the alliance.
Dr Meron is currently Chief Medical Officer of Solent NHS Trust, which provides mental health, community and primary care services to people living in Southampton, Portsmouth and some parts of Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.
He is also Deputy Medical Director at University Hospital Southampton Foundation Trust, a large teaching hospital providing secondary and tertiary acute services in Wessex. He will move to Somerset in December.
Peter Lewis, Chief Executive of both Taunton and Somerset NHS Foundation Trust and Somerset Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, said, “We look forward to Dan joining us at a particularly important time. Our trusts formed an alliance in 2017 and we are planning to merge so that we can integrate community, mental health and hospital services and improve services for our patients.
“Our drive to deliver outstanding care is at the heart of our work and we are looking forward to benefitting from Dan’s expertise and experience as a psychiatrist and a medical leader.”
Dan studied Medicine at the University of Southampton and completed Psychiatry Specialist training in Wessex. Dan combines senior leadership roles with active front-line clinical work as a Consultant in Liaison Psychiatry in Southampton General Hospital, as well as being actively engaged in research at the School of Medicine, University of Southampton.
He said, “I am looking forward to joining colleagues in the alliance at this exciting and important time.
“Moving towards a merger will enable clinicians from across the community, mental health and hospital services to deliver integrated health services for the benefit of the people of Somerset.
“Somerset is leading the way towards delivering the integration vision described in the NHS long term plan.”
