Man threatens woman with screwdriver and demands her rucksack in Taunton

Avon and Somerset Police have issued CCTV images of a man they’d like to trace as part of their investigation into an attempted robbery in Taunton.

The incident happened at about 05:15 on Saturday 2 November in Staplegrove Road near its junction with Chip Lane.

The pictures show a man who was in the area at the time.

A 45-year-old woman was walking to work when a man threatened her with a screwdriver and demanded her rucksack.

There was a struggle and the woman fell to the ground before managing to run away.

A few minutes later the man tried again, while the woman was still in Staplegrove Road.

He made off empty-handed through the grounds of Taunton School towards Greenway Road when other people approached.

The suspect was white, aged 20 to 30, between 5ft 10ins and 5ft tall and slim. He wore a dark-coloured hoodie and trousers.

The victim suffered a bump on the head and grazing when she fell.
