Taunton’s Christmas lights will be switched on when Taunton’s WinterFest comes to town this Sunday (24 November).
The event, taking place from 10:00 until 20:00, will include live entertainment, fun fair rides, market stalls and Santa’s grotto.
There will be live performances on stage including Marvin Muoneké, one half of a singing duo that made it through to the Britain’s Got Talent semi finals.
There will also be a snow globe, a light-up snow queen and nutcracker on stilts and ‘naughty Christmas elves’ in the town centre.
Dodgems and a ‘hulk ride’ will take place in Castle Green on both Saturday and Sunday.
The Farmers Market will take place in its usual location on Taunton’s High Street and there will be a large festive market on North Street.
Free Christmas workshops will be taking place throughout the afternoon in Castle Green and there will be a free Santa’s grotto outside Taunton Visitor Centre on Fore Street.
The lights themselves will be turned on by cricket legend Marcus Trescothick.
Marcus, whose birthday is on Christmas Day, said:
“It is a huge privilege to be invited to switch on Taunton’s Christmas lights.
Christmas is such a wonderful time of year and I am delighted to be part of Taunton’s festivities this year.”
Taunton’s Christmas tree has once again been donated by Langford Lakes who have also generously donated trees for Wellington and Wivelisombe.
Road closures will be in operation at East Street, Corporation Street, Hammet Street and North Street from 06:00 through to midnight with diversions in place.
