Love Musgrove launches Covid-19 Response Fund

Love Musgrove, the official charity of Musgrove Park Hospital, launched its campaign to raise money to support the incredible work of local NHS staff.

Love Musgrove is here to support the NHS and staff at Musgrove Park and will continue to do so during this difficult time. Staff are working incredibly hard to keep us safe; their dedication, commitment and passion to continue to deliver exceptional care during this unprecedented period is truly inspirational and the Charity are extremely proud of them.

In light of their hard work, and the challenge facing the community, the Charity are encouraging everyone to rally behind Musgrove as well as saying thank you to staff during this extremely difficult time. The best way to say thank you is to donate to Love Musgrove’s brand new Covid-19 Response Fund, where money can be used where it is most needed, which includes:

  • Funding wellbeing packs/gifts for staff and volunteers on wards/departments

(this could include food deliveries, high energy/protein bars/drinks, snacks, refreshments, wash kits, overnight stay kits, furniture for rest rooms, etc.)

  • Purchasing food to make meals for staff during shifts, kindly being supported by Taunton School and Somerset Larder.
  • Equipment and support for the busiest departments, like ITU (Intensive Therapy Unit) & A&E
  • Items to support patients in isolation like DAB Radios and iPads
  • Cost of travel, parking, accommodation for NHS staff and volunteers
  • Volunteer expenses
  • This list is not exhaustive

There are several easy ways to donate:

  • Donate online at www.lovemusgrove.org.uk/covid19
  • Text MUSGROVE followed by your donation amount (between £1 & £20) to 70085
  • Send a cheque, made payable to ‘Love Musgrove Covid-19’ to Fundraising Office, Musgrove Park Hospital, Taunton, Somerset, TA1 5DA

The Charity is thrilled to see members of the local community come together to help raise money for the Covid-19 Response Fund. Frankie Wright, who has helped spearhead the effort to raise funds for the Covid-19 Response Fund, has set up her own Just Giving page to collect donations from family, friends and the local community to support the work of Musgrove Park Hospital during this difficult time.

Frankie had this to say: “Hi, I am Frankie, I live with my husband, two daughters, Marley and Riva, and our cat Elsie. I have been inspired by my friends Paola and Ziggy in North Wales who have set up a Just Giving page for their local hospital, to set one up for our local hospital – Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton.

I feel the need, as so many of us do, to help in whatever way I can, and as we are currently isolating ourselves in our little home in rural Somerset, it’s something I can actually do!”

Friends Nick and Alex are taking on a Rowing Isolation Challenge to raise funds, and had the following to say: “We would like to support our local hospital, Musgrove Park Hospital, as it prepares itself to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic. We also want to promote the importance of staying healthy and exercising at home during periods of isolation.

We have set ourselves a challenge, and the difficulty will be dictated by how much money is raised. We will row indoors 100 meters for every £1 donated to support Love Musgrove. We have set a fundraising target of £2,000. If we realise this goal, that equates to 200km of rowing between us. We hope this target will be reached, and even surpassed!”

To keep up to date with those that are taking on fundraising challenges and actively supporting our work, and to support them directly, head to the Love Musgrove website at www.lovemusgrove.org.uk/covid19.

Love Musgrove has also received a number of donations from local businesses in support of NHS staff. Taunton’s Body Shop and Taunton’s Marks and Spencer have given a brilliant supply of beauty and food gifts, and Taunton’s TK Maxx donated over £14,000 of food and other supplies before they closed their doors last week. The Charity is looking for businesses that can to come together to support this cause, with donations to staff and patients, or to help with fundraising by encouraging staff and donating funds if they can.
