Car ‘well alight’ on M5 between Junctions 24 and 25

A car was severely damaged by fire on the M5 earlier today (Friday).

Crews from Bridgwater and Taunton were mobilised following multiple calls from the owner and passing motorists reporting a car fire on the M5 Southbound between Junctions 24 Huntworth and 25 Blackbrook at 14:15.

A spokesperson for Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service said:

“The car had pulled over on the hard shoulder and was well alight on our arrival.

Crews soon had the fire under control, with two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus using two hose reel jets and small tools.

Once extinguished and the vehicle, and scene, made safe, duty of care was left with driver awaiting recovery and the police for scene safety.

The fire which started accidentally, severely damaged the car but there were no casualties.”
