Person rescued from River Tone in Taunton

A person was rescued from the River Tone by Taunton fire crews this morning (Monday).

Two fire engines from Taunton and the special rescue team from Bridgwater were mobilised following a call from a member of the public reporting a person in the river near Poundstretcher on Bridge Street in Taunton at 00:09.

A spokesperson for Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service said:

“On arrival, firefighters found a female in the river, holding onto the pontoon.

Crews used a short extension ladder, throw lines and personal flotation devices to rescue the female from the water.

The special rescue team were not required.

The female casualty was handed over to paramedics on scene.“
