Green Flags raised in award winning parks

Green flags have been raised at seven of Somerset West and Taunton’s parks and open spaces – a sign they have been recognised as some of the very best in the country.

Flags have been raised at Blenheim Gardens in Minehead; Taunton’s Vivary, Victoria, French Weir and Comeytrowe Parks; Wellington Park and  Swains Lane Nature Reserve in Wellington.

They were awarded to the Council through the Green Flag Award Scheme to demonstrate they have the highest possible environmental standards, are beautifully maintained and have excellent visitor facilities.

Cllr Derek Perry, Executive Member for Sports, Parks and Leisure, said “We were delighted to retain these prestigious awards which show how hard our grounds team and local volunteers work to maintain our parks and open spaces to such a high standard.

“I would like to thank everyone who has worked with us to maintain this international recognition. It really is a long-term commitment and it’s an honour to fly these flags in recognition of their dedication for another year.”

The flags were raised by members of the Open Spaces team, with local Mayors and volunteers from the Friends groups which help to keep them in tip top condition.
