‘Grow more, waste less’ great-value compost bin offer

Somerset has a great new deal to help its gardens grow, from flourishing flower beds to that productive veg patch.

Somerset Waste Partnership (SWP) has teamed up with experts getcomposting.com for an exclusive offer of compost bins. Home composting cuts CO2 emissions and turns most kitchen and garden waste into a free supply of compost to keep gardens blooming year after year.

Helping Somerset gardeners waste less and grow more, SWP is offering 1,000 compost bins at a special discounted price. Residents can also buy one and get a second half price.

To suit most gardens, compost “converters” come in two sizes. The smaller 220 litre is only £10, and the larger 330 litre is just £12.50. Delivery is £9.99 per order. It is easy to buy online through www.getcomposting.com, and gardeners can even team up with a neighbour to save more with buy-one-get-one-half-price offer and splitting the delivery cost.

For the best home composter results, find a partly sunny site as the sun’s warmth will speed up decomposition. Use a mix of ingredients, with roughly equal amounts of “green” material (grass cuttings, fruit and veg scraps etc) and “brown” materials (woody prunings, autumn leaves etc).

Compost’s worms and “mini-beasts” must breathe – create air pockets with scrunched up kitchen roll tubes or card egg boxes, and aerate the contents by turning it with a garden fork.
