PETE TREGO AWARDED BENEFIT

Somerset County Cricket Club is delighted to announce that Pete Trego has been awarded a well deserved benefit for the 2015 season.

The all rounder from Weston-super-Mare appeared for the Second XI as a 16 year old and made his senior debut in a 40 over Sunday League game at Bath in June 2000.

During his time first class career to date, he has played in over 467 games across all formats in which he has amassed 13,200 runs including 17 centuries and taken 544 wickets.

Over the years the 33 year old has produced many match winning innings in both Championship and One Day cricket and last season became only the second Somerset player ever to top 1000 runs in a One Day season.

Pete hit his First Class career best of 140 against West Indies A in 2002 and in 2012 he took 50 Championship wickets in the season.

The all rounder said: “I am thrilled that Somerset have awarded me a benefit because it is the place where I was born and where I have loved playing my cricket. As a Somerset boy this makes me feel very, very proud.

“One of the highlights of my career has been the back to back centuries I scored in this summer’s Royal London One-Day Cup competition, the second of which was at Lord’s .

“After 15 seasons with Somerset I feel that I am at the peak of my career and look forward to few more years yet playing cricket at my favourite place- the County Ground in Taunton.

“This is a dream come true for me and during the coming year I look forward to meeting Somerset supporters all over the county and will be hoping to crown my benefit season with some silverware.”

Chief Executive Guy Lavender said: “Peter Trego has been a stalwart of the Club for many years and has made an immense contribution to Somerset both on and off the field.

“The General Committee was unanimous in its view that Peter was entirely deserving of a Benefit Year and I am delighted for him. I have no doubt that Somerset Members and supporters will be keen to show their appreciation for his enormous contribution to the Club over the course of his benefit year.”
