Werton Test in Cup Semi Final

The Taunton Town FC Peacocks take a break from league duty with a trip to Bath City in the semi-final of the Somerset Premier Cup this evening (1 April), kick-off 7.45pm. Bath currently lie in 7th place in the Conference South, two tiers above Town’s division, and are still in with a chance of making the play-offs but Taunton have won the last two meetings between the sides which have both been in the Premier Cup competition. The Romans were beaten 2-1 at the Viridor Stadium in October 2011 while Town were victorious by the same scoreline at Twerton Park in November 2006. The strength of City’s team tomorrow remains to be seen but only four of their squad who beat Cheddar in the quarter final featured in Saturday’s Conference draw at Sutton United. Good news for Town is the return of Rodney Marsh who has been out injured for the past five months with ligament damage. The presence of Marsh, top goalscorer for the past three seasons, will be a boost to the visitor’s squad which also welcomes back Josh Wadham following illness and Rob Norrish who has been unavailable for the last two matches. However Ross MacNab is cup-tied after playing for Clevedon Town in an earlier round whilst injury victims Chris Young (knee) and Simon Ingram (hamstring) are not yet fit to return.

Manager Leigh Robinson said: “We’re really looking forward to the game as it’s ideal timing to break the cycle of league fixtures. We’ll relish the underdog tag for the first time this year and go all out to reach the final.”
