Recently launched, Taunton Fitness Club (TFC) provides a much-needed club where like-minded people can enjoy keeping fit with others without elitism or competitiveness. The club is free to join with no annual fees and is part of an initiative to improve people’s health and well-being in our community.
Currently, the club is in the fifth week of its Couch to 5K programme. This programme was massively oversubscribed but, due to Covid restrictions and the number of coaches, was eventually limited to twenty-five people in small groups. Each person that graduates will receive a unique medal and certificate of their achievement. Once the Covid rules allow, the club has plans for another, much larger, Couch to 5K programme in the summer. The club also has a plan in place for several running/jogging groups, and these will be up and running by the end of May.
TFC also has well attended cycling groups. Wednesday evening, the social cycle groups (any ability or bike type – pace leisurely) visit nearby villages and perhaps stop at a country pub for refreshment. Sunday groups cycle a bit further, typically up to 30 miles, and requires a higher fitness level to manage our local hills.
The club has several members interested in walking, and are keen to seek leaders that have local knowledge and can plan a route. For more details:
