Council urges public to attend next drop-in on gas works in Taunton

Wales & West Utilities (WWU) is holding a further drop-in event for its major gas main replacement works currently ongoing in Taunton.

Work started in March on an upgrade of the gas mains in the west of Taunton. The scheme will see mains upgraded around Bishops Hull Road and Silk Mills Road area. The £358,000 programme is upgrading 1.8km of metal pipes to long lasting plastic pipes and will ensure the continued safe and reliable supply of gas to local homes and businesses.

It will require road closures and traffic management, and Somerset Council is urging local people to attend the drop-in session to find out more.

The event has been arranged for the 21 May, from 2-7pm at Robin Close, Communal Hall, Bishops Hull, TA1 5EU. Here you can meet the Wales & West Utiltiies team as supported by the Somerset Council Streetworks team and ask any questions about the project.

People will be able to find out about the next phase of the work that is due to start on 16 June on the A3065 Silk Mills Road.

  • During the works and to ensure road users, pedestrians and the workforce are safe there will be various types of traffic management in place, and there will be a one-way system on the A3065 Silk Mills Road between the A38 Wellington New Road Roundabout and Mountway Road. On this section, traffic will only be allowed northbound, traffic will not be able to access the A38 Wellington New Road from the Mountway Road direction.
  • Prior to this the Bishops Hull Road phase completes around 9 June and it will see two-way lights in place on the A38 from 27 May for two weeks, with Road Closures of Bishops Hull Hill and Comeytrowe Lane to reduce the red times on the signals. The lights will be under manual control between the hours of 7am to 6.30pm daily, to help mitigate any delays.

Road users are advised to plan ahead as there is likely to be some disruption at peak times.
