Evening resurfacing work on stretch of A358

Somerset County Council’s Highways team needs to carry out urgent resurfacing work on the A358 at Hatch Beauchamp next week.

The Council’s contractor will be working on a stretch of the road from the Ilminster Road junction to the Langport Road junction from Wednesday, 16 March for 13 nights until 1 April. The road will be closed from 6.30pm until 7am week days, but it will be open outside of these hours and at weekends.

A diversion will be in place during the hours of closure.

The team is aware National Highways needs to close the A303 at  nearby Horton Cross from 14-19 March. Representatives of National Highways and Somerset County Council are working together to ensure both works can take place safely. The teams will work to ensure disruption is kept to a minimum for residents in the immediate area and all road users.

Councillor John Woodman, Somerset County Council’s Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport said: “It’s important we carry out this resurfacing work as soon as possible, we recently had to set up temporary lights on this stretch to fix a defect – there is significant deterioration on the carriageway. The team will be working overnight to minimise disruption for road users and local residents.

“We appreciate there will be some inconvenience  – we’ll be doing everything we can to get this job done as quickly as possible.”
