Somerset West and Taunton (SWT) is encouraging homeowners and private landlords to apply for a Green Homes Grant in line with its corporate priorities for climate change and housing.
The Government’s Green Homes Grant scheme will allow Somerset West and Taunton residents to make home improvements helping to save up to £600 a year on their energy bills.
It will fund up to two-thirds of the cost of works with grants available for up to £5,000. Low income households are eligible to receive 100% government funding up to a maximum of £10,000.
The vouchers can be used to cover green home improvements such as
- Solid wall, under-floor, cavity wall or roof insulation
- Air source or ground source heat pump
- Solar thermal
Anyone choosing to install at least one of these measures is eligible for an additional voucher to fund the cost of a further energy saving measure, such as
- Double or triple/secondary glazing, when replacing single glazing
- Upgrading to energy efficient doors
- Hot water tank/appliance tank thermostats/heating controls
Cllr Peter Pilkington, Executive Member for Climate Change, said: “The scheme is running until March 2021 so we hope both residents and landlords make the most of the grants available as it is a fantastic opportunity to improve the efficiency of all our homes. The scheme will play a vital role in reducing carbon emissions, helping families to save money and providing healthier and more comfortable living conditions. The Government is investing £2bn into this scheme and we hope Somerset West and Taunton residents take advantage of this funding.”
