Peacocks break duck at Cleeve

Two super second half finishes propelled Town to a 3-1 win at Bishops Cleeve in the Calor League yesterday evening (8 April). The victory signified the Peacocks’ first ever league win at the Gloucestershire club and lifts them into 10th place albeit possibly only for 24 hours. Things didn’t get off to the best of starts after Town conceded on 10 minutes, their defence getting in a tangle when dealing with a long throw from the left and Lorcan Sheehan capitalising to fire into the far corner. The visitors were back on level terms ten minutes later when good work from Ben Carter put Chris Young in on goal but he was felled as he rounded home keeper Harvey Rivers. Nat Pepperell duly scored from the spot and Rivers was dismissed. Young lobbed wide with another decent chance but the sides went in at the break level. However Town pulled away against their ten-man opponents after the interval and it was Young who deservedly gave them the advantage, controlling a long ball from Jamie Short on the right side of the box and turning a defender to fire under substitute keeper Jamie Moore on 54 minutes. Josh Wadham saw his shot parried by Moore before Rodney Marsh notched a third on 80 minutes. Short’s throw found Young who laid the ball into the path of Marsh and he did the rest with a razor sharp first time shot from the edge of the area. Match report now online.

Reaction – manager Leigh Robinson remarked:” It was good to pick up another away win at a tricky place and even better that it was our first ever league win there. Naturally the red card helped us but it was about as clear as it gets and came from two fantastic bits of composure from Ben Carter and Chris Young. We must keep going and keep churning out the wins as we strive to finish the season in the highest position possible.”
