Taunton Town FC See Off Seasiders

Taunton climbed one place up the Calor League table after overcoming Clevedon Town 2-0 at the Viridor Stadium this afternoon (5 April). In the end it proved a relatively straightforward win for the Peacocks despite several chances going begging which allowed the visitors the odd glimpse of recovery. Steve Murray had seen two shots gathered by James Dunn before Town went ahead on 25 minutes when Ross MacNab stormed into the box to lay the ball across from the left and Jamie Short fired home at the far post. Moments into the second half MacNab couldn’t capitalise on Adi Harvey’s weak header back to Dunn who also made a fine stop to deny Jamie Price who had weaved his way into the area. A Clevedon break led to Isaac Reid having his shot blocked from close range but the Peacocks posed the greater goal threat and extended their lead with ten minutes remaining. Nat Pepperell was tripped by Mason Winter and the Town striker was quickly on his feet to steer the penalty into Dunn’s left-hand corner. The second goal kick-started some pressure from the home side with Matt Thorne clearing Chris Young’s effort off the line and Price’s header saved after another good break by Ben Carter. Joe Perry was forced into some late activity, tipping Kye Mountford’s long range shot over the bar and palming away Thorne’s free kick but Town saw the game out.

Manager Leigh Robinson said:” I felt that whilst we were always in control of the game and never in danger of losing we made it a little harder than it probably should have been. We didn’t quite have our shooting boots on today but I’m happy if we keep that in store for the bigger challenges to come. It was great to see Rodney back out on the pitch and I’m sure he will give us added impetus going forward in this final month.”
